For my history class we have to make a holocaust memorial project. We can do almost anything. Poems, sewing, woodwork, etc. I am a crafty person. I can crochet, knit, embroider, and very basic quilting. I also love scrapbooking. What should I do for my project? Anyone have a pattern or specific idea that I could do? Oh, and I can't write poems. I'm horrible. haha

the suggestion of krystalnacht made me think of the quilt block Crystal. Making a small one, setting that in the bottom corner with a yellow star, then making a couple more, larger ones, hacking them up, then strew the pieces across the top and sewing them down, leaving the raw edges exposed, with colors of white for the windows shattered, red tossed into for fires, and dark colors for the night time.

What about a scrapbook showing what happened during the Holocaust, beginning with maybe Krystalnacht, or perhaps from the beginning of the camps, and go through to the liberation of the camps by the Allies.

Download pics from the Internet, it's OK to do this for school projects, print out on photo paper if you can, but ordinary paper will do if this is all you have. Decorate with relevant symbols, and write short explanations of each piece.

Why not write a paper on an aspect of it? Write a 2 or 3 page paper on a survivor story or some other aspect?

Whatever you choose to do, lots of good resources at the Holocaust Memorial Museum website. Just google it up!

Research the emblems sewn on the different prisoners uniforms. The Star of David was used for Jews, and a Purple Triangle was used for Jehovah's Witnesses. Sorry, that's all I know. I'm sure there must be more.

I would make a crazy quilt. It is a great way to get the message across and incorparate any pictures or items that you may have. Plus they're a blast to make.

Make a report called: "All aboard the Jew-Jew train: The story of the Holocaust" It will be a hit.

Your project should definitely include your skills. You could knit a family of dolls and embroider on the yellow star they were forced to wear. http://www.remember.org/image/378.gif

Have photos of their shoes or eyeglasses. It makes it more personal.
