I need help with my strap-hinge scrapbook?

I'm new to scrapbooking. (fyi)

I just made a new page for my brand new scrapbook and I went to open it up and realized it hat Strap hinges with pages already in it... I know this is a really really dumb question. But am I supposed to glue my page to the pages in the book? The pages that came with the book with the metal hooks have hard boarders on both ends of the page. Like this | | . I layed the page I made on top of the page in the book and it doesnt quite fit (by about a cm).

And - the scrapbook I have is kindof plain and I might get a newer/nicer one eventually. Are the pages interchangeable between books?

Sorry if that is really confusing. I've been trying to look it up online and I havnt had any luck... If you need me to rephrase I can try. Just ask. :) Thanks so much in advance.

Hi,

Welcome to scrapbooking!! Do you have a Creative Memories scrapbook? They are great, excellent quality scrapbooks. I believe you can add 2 more packs of background paper to it also. I do know that they are not very exciting on the outside, but they really are good quality books to use. (And they lie flat when they are open!) Keep that in mind if you ever want to change and know that you have a good one already.

The pages in the book, can be embellished as they are. Or you can add your own decorative paper over it to create the background you want. You would use 12 x 12 paper and fasten it to the existing page in the book. Like "Gary" explained before, you need to trim a small portion off to get the proper fit. Be sure to always check with each 12 x 12 sheet you use for fit because some are not true 12 x 12 size. You will also want to use the page protectors from Creative Memories too. The page protectors protect the top of the book and when the book is on the shelf, so dust can't get in that way!

Hope this helps you some! Happy Scrapping! :)

I am answering in my husbands login so please don't be alarmed that this is coming from a guy (hehe). I too had this happen when I started I was using albums from a very nice home party sales type company. The albums are great and long lasting I just found I preferred the 12 x 12 designer papers more.

If you book is like mine you should be able to trim your background 1/2 inch and it should fit between hard borders. This is usually best done prior to starting your page, but I have had some success trimming 1/4 in from each side of a completed page. Then you can glue the page directly onto the white page in the book. As for upgrading your book later, you might consider removing the staple hinges, and trimming

the hard borders off. This makes it fairly easy to slide into a sheet protector to place in another book. If you're concerned about plain, you can usually add adhesive backed rhinestones, ribbons, and the like to embellish the album you already have. Many scrapbookers will tell you " a done page is a beautiful page!" Hope this helps. LM

Hi!

It sounds like you have a Creative Memories scrapbook, as others have noted. I'm actually an independent consultant for the company, and one of the things that they have just committed to is getting their products to the industry size - a true square of 12" x 12". However, their "older" products (anything available for purchase before this upcoming March) are actually 12" x 11.5". It's this non-square size that can cause papers bought elsewhere or CM papers that are not oriented the "right" way that will make a paper hang over the side of the page. You can trim this excess off - it's always 1/2".

The really exciting thing is that CM is going to "fix" this! So my advice is to wait to buy for new projects until March and ensure that you get enough to finish your current projects now. While the transition seems at first like a pain, it's all for the best in the end!

However, yes, the intention (although you can do it any way you like!) is for you to take the paper and affix it to the white pages inside the ablum.

In addition, you'll be able to interchange these pages with other Creative Memories albums - both before and after this project transition. (They fit in the current product line albums, which have gotten much more "exciting" and will also fit into the future, slightly larger albums - which, as a teaser, are largely solid colors, but with some new, very cute colors with great texture/sheen.)

I'm more than happy to help you over Yahoo! Messenger, on the phone, or otherwise. Please feel free to contact me if you need any help with your CM produts and projects. (I've only done three projects myself, so I'm still learning!) If you would like to check out CM products, contact me and I can send you a catalog or my website. (email is easiest for first contact: cmkristin@gmail.com)

Good luck with your project! It's such a rewarding feeling to finish a project and be able to have a book of your memories.

Hi ! I have lots of strap-hinge scrapbooks... and I think I can help! the pages are indeed designed to attach your layouts to... from your description i'm assuming that the album you have is one of the older Creative Memories Albums???? If so, these older albums were designed to be used with their classic "Perfect: fit Pages which are 12 inches high but a little less than 12 inches wide. the intention is for the metal on the page sides to protect your layouts from any junk (dust, etc etc) getting in to effect your layouts. If you need help with this I may be able to help you as I am a CM consultant in Massachusetts. I can help in several ways. 1> I can show you how to work the strap system (or email you photos describing how to do it). all pages are interchangeable between albums 2> I can tell you about the larger page sizes that are used now in CM albums that are made specifically for TRUE 12x12 pages. if the older album you have is still in good shape and you would like to exchange either the pages out of it and/or exchange it for a newer TRUE 12x12 cover set.. i'm happy to try and work somehting in trade with you... 3> another option is simply to trim the ends of your layout (if you can) 4> Also, all CM albums can be customized with embossed covers even years after purchase... so if you 'd like to jazz the cover up.. I can share more info with you! They are also great to embellish by creating your own cover art!! (I can show you how) though please be aware that although embellishing an album can give AWESOME results.. it would unfortunately compromise the lifetime guarantee that CM has on ALLLLLLL of their albums. if I can be of any further assistance.. please let me know! If your album is a Creative Memories album, then I can probably help you. The plastic strip I gather is what you put in at the back or front of your album to feed the straps through to secure it? What colour are you looking for?
