I've googled this but I'm only finding diy directions on how to customize a store-bought shade. I need to know how to make one from scratch. What do I need to buy and step by step directions, etc...

There are various ways to make an entire lampshade from scratch, so it's hard to know which kind you want.

You can create a frame from wire, other metals, wood, etc, basically anything that's stiff and you can shape. You can then put all kinds of things around/over it to create the shade from fabric, to plastic, to glass, etc, etc.

You can also make shades that will themselves be stiff and not require a separate frame, from papier mache, polymer clay, various kinds of plastics, etc., etc.

Or maybe this is what you're asking for?:

I seen these metal rings in the arts & crafts section at Wal mart and Job Lot. They're usually used for homemade dream catchers.

I used them with japanese art paper, or you can use cloth. and a bit of super glue. cut metal coat hangers, and simply bend with a needle nose pliers and solder if you need to in the middle for the light bulb to sit on.

WHy listen to morons who google when you can ask real people with real ideas?
