yay! another convert :)

Stitch and ***** by Debbie Stoller is without a doubt the most user friendly book i've used on knitting....many other books are really confusing in their language, but the drawings and explanations are very simple. plus the patterns are cool. and its actually really funny too!

once you've read about it, there are also youtube videos on knitting! i've been knitting (and teaching friends to knit lol) for years, but it wasn't until i saw a video, with the camera kind of where your head would be, that i really understood the difference between watching someone from the side and watching it happen the way a good knitter sees it happen.

another good knitting website is www.knitty.com. from there you can connect to all kinds of resources about knitting. or try a yahoo! group for help.

she also has a book about Crochet called the Happy Hooker :p. i don't crochet, but once i finish a few of the projects i have going i'll probably get a copy of that & start :)

stinks that your classes are not popular. can you find a friend to sign up with you?

p.s. sorry this is long, i'm a little obsessed lol

Has anybody seen Knit & Crochet Today on PBS? The guest sections help teach a new idea or project, and then there's a terrific "How-To" section at the end that shows the step by step instructions featured in the show.

www.knitandcrochettoday.com

If the show is not in your area, you can visit the PBS stations page and add your request online.

I learned to knit using the "Stitch n B****" book by Debbie Stoller. Nice clear instructions and a progression of easy first projects to build your skills.

www.knittinghelp.com is a site that helped me to learn knitting. i was shown by the MIL while she was visiting me in Boston. Once she left I had to find a way to keep up with it on my own.

Also- look up videos on www.youtube.com

Good Luck!

I have heard that the Boye I taught myself how to knit kit is really useful. A lot of knitters I know have learned from this and they say it is the easiest way they tried.

the Teach yourself books are great. I got these for my youngest daughter. They are very easy to use and understand. I used them even to refresh my skills.

most the craft stores and wal-mart carry them.
