I already have a traxxas slash should i go brushless or should i get a nitro car. i was looking into the traxxas s-maxx is that any good. i am a very creative teenager that is looking for a fun project. i want something that will always have me building on and on. i would like something that is verry fast on the street like the jato but with high ground clearence for jumps and going over curbs. i want something realitivly cheap( i know that nothing is cheap in rc hobbies). please help me and tell me if i am on the right track with traxxas. THANKS

Either a nitro truggy or a nitro monster truck would suit you.

Go to your nearest hobby shop and find out which brand and model they supply spare parts for, then make your choice from there. I'd recommend Thunder Tiger and Team Associated, they are basically the same in that parts from the MTA4 monster truck are exactly the same as the MGT monster truck.

I have a Thunder Tiger EB4 buggy and a Thunder Tiger MTA4 monster truck and have never experienced any problems or had any major breakages.

Maintenance is important, as with anything. Look after it and it will last for years.

if you want something you will spend a lot of time on then definitely nitro. Just be prepared to spend money on it. What you will find out is that your slash is extremely durable. but if you get a nitro car, the weight goes up as does the speed(generally). I never broke anything on my stampede and i drove that all the time and it was awesome. ramped 5 feet high and landed on top and just flip itover and its going again. i have a team losi aftershock now and it is much easier to break. it is sooo much faster in the grass and that makes it easier to crash. i have had to replace the front suspension arms on the left side twice. first time from friend driving into house and second time for me driving into steel pole that was sticking out of ground. the part is made to break so nothing expensive breaks but still, i didnt have that problem with the stampede. Gas is also pretty expensive, about $30 a gallon. i understand when you say relatively cheap, you mean not something like an lst2 that costs about $600. i was in a similar position that is why i bought the aftershock. I had my stampede xl-5 for over a year and then saw how much the vxl's had come down in price so i sold my stampede intending to get a vxl rustler or stampede. i talked with the local hobby shop owner and he told me that he had recently sold one to a guy but the guy was very unsatisfied because it is barely faster than an xl-5 with a regular nicd/nimh battery. if you want to go brushless you would have to spend $100 on a decent lipo charger and about $100 per battery pack to get good performance. i thought about it and was going to get a t-maxx 3.3 until i talked to the guy at the other hobby shop. he said he sells traxxas because it is the main r/c car company and they advertise a lot. he told me that because the traxxas engines rev so high, they are very finicky and oftentimes frustrating. he said that generally the bigger the engine the less finnicky it is. the trx 2.5 engine is .15 cubic inches and the trx 3.3 is .2 cubic inches. i bought the aftershock because it was bigger, had 2 steering servos, a nice JR radio that is much nicer than those traxxas radios, and a .26 cubic inch engine for a bit less than the price of the t-maxx. I payed about $350 for mine. but i then bought a rechargeable pack for the car because those two steering servos drain alkalines pretty quick. i then had to pay for $30 in fuel. about $5 for an extra glow plug. and since you dont have any nitro tools you will need a glow plug wrench(pretty cheap), a small common screwdriver, a glow plug igniter($20-30), a fuel bottle($5), and maybe something i am forgetting. hopefully i will be of assistance
