For Christmas I got a coin that I know nothing about. On the head's side it says "One ounce .999 silver" and "Avalon" with the picture of a lion's head. On the reverse it says "In Freedom's Name" and "Luminosus Vitaae" and there's a picture of 2 pillars with a sword inbetween. I've searched for this coin online and found nothing about it. Does anyone know where it's minted from, or where I can find any others like it?

The coin is actually what is called a silver round for the country does not exist. They are made in many different ways so that the design of at least one of them will make a person buy one. I am wondering if in 1997 there was a movie with this title and one of the private mints made it so they could sell them to people that saw the movie. It is not a U.S. mint item. It's value lies in the one ounce of silver in it. Do a google search for Silver town (maybe one word silvertown) for they sell a lot of different silver rounds and one of their staff may remember it. if you have no luck with search email me and I will look up their address or web site. I don't have a coin magazine handy at this point.

This is a One Troy Ounce .999 Fine Silver Round. The front shows an engraving of a LION with a CROWN. It reads "AVALON".

The back shows a SWORD , TWO PILLARS and a WREATH. It reads "LUMINOSUS VITAAE".

Avalon is a legendary island somewhere in the British Isles featured in the Arthurian legend, famous for its beautiful apples. It first appears in Geoffrey of Monmouth's 1136 pseudohistorical account Historia Regum Britanniae ("The History of the Kings of Britain") as the place where King Arthur is taken to recover from his wounds after his last battle at Camlann, and where his sword Caliburn (Excalibur) was forged.

its US mint and its worth about $12.49. But seeing its silver it will slowly increase value over the years.

Sounds like this is a vintage desirable ,hard to find .999 silver "Avalon" Art Round made by the "Golden Lion Mint".

Don't listen to the chatter about your rounds "only" being "worth spot". The better statement is, that they are "always" worth "at least" spot. Millions of people Collect,Trade, sell, and buy the Collectors Art Rounds and Bars, that have a premium Collector value above spot..

Imagine that a shirt, or a mop, or shoes, or underwear you bought in 1984, still had a fluctuating documented value on the stock market, no matter how much you wear it, and you could take it into any

department store and get money for it, anytime.

That is how to look at silver, gold etc. There is always a basic value to a lump of silver and gold.A lot of the The Older, and some Current, Bars, Rounds, Medals, and Commemoratives are worth more than "spot" and attract Collectors from all over the World.

It is a fun Hobby to Collect what you like, and to know, that no matter what you decide to pay for it, it will "AT LEAST" always have a basic "spot value", and a Premium Value to other Collectors.

jmho :)

The spot rate for silver is within the $29 greenback variety so 10 oz involves $290. A $60 cost is a bit of steep so I could seem for a bullion trader in my regional field to shop for bullion.

I found a gold version of your coin on Ebay for sale. The seller, too, is having trouble finding information. Perhaps he might know something about the silver versions.

I got the same thing by throwing darts at balloons at the midway of the Fort Worth Stock show. I checked on line and it's worth about eleven bucks. sorry for the bad news.

It took me thirteen dollars in darts to win it.
