What size and weight of hook and yarn is best to use to crochet a hat?

I'm a beginner at crochet! Though I am not familiar with the sizes of hooks and weights of yarn and need assistance please!! :D

It would depend on the type of hat you want to make. I usually use a H or I hook and a worsted weight yarn for my winter hats for adults. I use D-F hooks and baby weight yarn for my preemie and baby hats. These are for winter hats.



For summer, I make open mesh hats using Caron light weight yarns. I still use the same size hooks.
