I have a pure white shirt I got from Michael's and I also purchased a few fabric markers. I've heard that fabric markers will fade after a month, and I really don't want that to happen since I'll be drawing something very intricate on it. So, is there any spray to use or anything to keep the color there?

Even if you didn't wash it, would the color still fade?

Also, if there is a certain process you'd have to go through, I'd love it if you could explain that to me as well, or at least give me a link to a site page, etc.

((Just some other information: I'm using the T-shirt to decorate it and draw stuff on it relating to Harry Potter since I LOVE IT and I'm going to see it on Friday when the 7th movie (part 1, at least) comes out. So, that's why I'd love a quick answer for this :3 ))

Most fabric markers are permanent. They come with instructions and you do need to follow them for best results. Here are a few general pointers for a shirt decorated with fabric markers. To keep fabric marker marks from fading: 1. HEAT SET the markers. Use an iron set on cotton and press the marks. Don't glide the iron, that will stretch the shirt. Use a lift and press motion. Hold the iron for a couple seconds and move on. Or heat set in the dryer, tumble on high for about five minutes. 2.Wash properly. Do not use bleach on any shirts with markers. Do not wash in hot water. Do not use stain pre-treatments directly on the marks. Gentle washing with cold water is best. 3. Hang to dry. Once a shirt is decorated it should be treated the same way you wash and dry delicates. This may see like more work, but it will preserve the picture and keep it from fading. The worst thing is to toss in in your regular laundry with all the other dirty t-shirts. And to emphasize, do not use an type of bleach on a decorated shirt.

And don't use sharpies. Sharpies are unpredictable as fabric markers and even the maker of sharpies say don't use on fabric. The things you want to last won't and the marks you want to wash out will stay. I had an autograph on a t-shirt wash out with just rain water, yet that dot on my good pants won't come out no matter what i do. Also, with time sharpie marks develop a yellow halo around the marks from one of the solvents used to make the ink flow freely.

You must make sure you have waterproof markers. Sharpie are supposed to be very good, but they will spread a little, so light touches only to build up the colour. If you're in the States you'll be able to access them easily.

They're meant to stay, but they will fade over time. Wash them inside out to minimize scuffing, and use the gentle cycle. Use Woolite or other gentle soap, not the ones that advertise that they will remove all markings from your clothes. .
