Would construction paper make a good substitute?

For origami paper? I know origami paper is a special kind of paper, kind of waxy, and a perfect square. I can make a perfect square with construction paper, or any other kind, but I just want to know if construction paper makes a good enough substitute. I'm trying to make a rose, and it's pretty complicated.

As was said above, construction paper is too thick, but a pretty good alternative (depending on the size of your rose) is "Kraft paper". It's light enough, can be found almost anywhere, comes in a variety of colors, and it doesn't cost much either. I'm into Origami myself and have used it often...:-)

Take a look at this website for example, scroll down about halfways and you see several Koalas folded with Kraft paper - you can even use it for wet folding:

Construction paper is much too heavy to be used for origami. Origami paper is waxy but it's also thin so that it can make the fine details necessary for some designs. Regular construction paper is too thick and too rough for that kind of thing.

I tried to make a crane out of constuction paper once ans it fell apart. I did use computer paper to make one and it worked I suggest you try it (make it square first though)
