I found an old train set in my dads attic. I'm not well versed in the model train world, but I want to say its maybe HO gauge? Anyway, I put up a real tree and want to put the train under it. I know branches and needles are inevitably going to fall all over, is there any trick or secret to keeping the tracks clean? I also put up a porcelain village, so it will make regular vacuuming difficult.

Consider modifying a flat car or other one that you weight and mount a brush on the front to push the needles off the rails to keep from knocking the small train wheels. Use a locomotive to push the cleaning car around. Combine with ideas in other answers.

If you find the tree is putting sap on the rails, you may have to make a handle with a ScotchBrite pad shaped to fit on the end so you can slide it along the rails to clean off sticky and keep trains running, which will also remove needles

The 2 simplest solutions? 1) Artificial tree and 2) track layout BIGGER than the base of the base of the widest spread of the tree branches. Like this:

Beyond that, go for a long-needled tree, as those will be easier to remove. Or get a small computer vacuum with a flexible nozzle attachment and be careful.

Don't expect to get off easy, there is no solution except regular work.

I'd use a feather duster.

You can use canned compressed air to clean the tracks, but it's not an inexpensive solution.
