Im new to knitting and i just bought a Knifty Knitter, rectangular loom last night. I started a few minutes ago and im kinda doubting how it looks. Ive been pushing it down each time i pull the bottom string with the hook..but now, it looks like its starting to "form" at the bottom of the loom..except it looks stringy or loose. I dont want to continue with my knitting if, in the end my scarf will look too way loose. im not sure if im doing it right either..thanks, any advice would be helpful

If the result looks loose and holey, then the cause is either loose tension or yarn that is too thin. It is generally preferable to use bulky or at least heavy worsted weight yarn with this kind of loom. As others have suggested, an alternative option is to use two worsted weight yarns held together. But you said you were brand new to this and doubling the yarn can make it more difficult to identify which loops to lift over the knobs, so I recommend using bulky yarn. Lion's Brand has many economical bulky yarns available.

As far as doing it right, here are some online instructions: http://yarngear.com/looms/tips.htm

Knifty Knitter Purple Loom

If you are using the rectangular purple loom ... you need to use two strands of yarn... it can be the same color, it just makes it thicker and it won't look so "string-y". This loom also looks "funkier" until you get some done then it looks better. Works really well with the thicker and fancy type yarns as well.

As in "doing it right" follow the enclosed directions and it should be fine. There are several "methods" for these looms, but the ones they show you in the instructions that came with it are the best to start with.

Have fun!

Hi! I love knifty knitters!!! I own all the round ones and the rectangular one.

I see what you're saying. If you want your stitches to be tighter, you have to either use a thick yarn, or double up on a thin yarn. Using the knifty knitter is like knitting with large needles, so you have to adjust yarn size. Good luck!
