Hi,
I have a brother stitching machine LS-2125. I bought it a month ago( already used). In my machine the upper thread keeps breaking.I m not able to figure out whether it is breaking near upper tension control pin or in bobbin case. I followed all instruction which is there in manual and which I found on internet. I checked upper thread tension( i changed between 3-7, now it is on 5),needle is perfect,I have a new bobbin and bobbin case,I oiled machine too.The thread I am using in spool and in bobbin is same.the fabric and thread combination is perfect too, still thread keeps breaking,Mostly it stitches 2-3 inch and if I m stitching on very slow speed it will stitch up to 20 inch. I tried all possible things but no use. I m not a new user,I have stitched enough before.Could you please help me what to do??

Breaking upper thread can be:

--burrs someplace on threadpath (feel along any eyes, etc, with a piece of pantyhose nylon or very smooth lining fabric stretched over a fingertip) -- check the needle plate hole particularly, since it's a used machine.

--too much upper tension (normal tension is 4, range 3-5)

--misthreading (particularly missing the thread takeup)

-- jackrabbit starts

-- bad thread

-- bobbin in bobbin case backwards

-- thread hanging up in thread storage nick on spool, or backlashing around something (often the spool pin) (try a felt "doily" under the spool on a vertical pin)

-- needle is in wrong

-- needle is damaged

-- needle is the wrong size (try an 80/12 with two layers of cotton broadcloth for testing)

-- other misthreading (like forgetting to raise the presser foot when threading the tension)

One trick to help you diagnose what's breaking where is to thread up the machine with light colored thread and put one stripe of marker just above the needle eye; two above the thread guide just before the needle, three just before the thread takeup, four before the tension, etc. Sew until the thread breaks and record the position of the break. Repeat the whole rethreading and striping process, and try again. If the break always happens in about the same section of thread, you've got things narrowed down a bit.

Got the manual for the machine? You can download it for free at the Brother website.

While under warranty, I would take it to get it checked out.
