Question:
Why is Michaels (craft store) getting rid of all their beads?

Anyone know? I'm disgusted with emptiness in the bead aisles over the past 2 months. I cannot get any of the good stuff they used to carry - almost everything that's left is on clearance. There are rows and rows of empty hooks. I don't think I will go there for beads anymore. Thank goodness, AC Moore still carries a huge selection. In fact, they've expanded.

Michaels is not going to get rid of their beading section on the whole....it could just be your local store is either going to change their display, moving the display or making the area smaller based on popularity in your area.

My Michael's has a rather small yarn section, but the one two cities over has a huge display---it is manager's discression I think.

You can always write to Michael's corporate office thru their website....I have included the link to their online question form.

Here in the midwest, Michael's still has a huge beading section, well 4 aisles worth of all sorts of beads and accessories for jewelry-making.

No idea about AC Moore, never heard of them before.

I am a crafter with an online store. I too noticed that Michaels was getting rid of the beading and bead supply items. I am on Long Island NY. I asked the store manager what was going on with the bead supply. My wife and I were told that bead crafts were losing popularity and they were slowly phasing them out. It isn't cost effective for Michaels to stock the bead supplies because they don't sell well anymore. That is according to the Patchogue store manager.

Wow. My neighbor always goes to Michael's for her beads. I hope it is a change of inventory. If not, try an online source such as the one I buy from. (link below). The more you buy the better the price group you get into. I sometimes put an order together with my friends. They have a wonderful selection and a reasonable shipping fee.

If they also phase out rhinestones, I have good link for that. They have prices BETTER than Michael's.

Most likely they are getting ready to reset this section with new items. Anything they won't be carrying anymore they clearance and then do the reset with great new items. They must keep up with the times. Don't give up on them, just keep checking back.

With beading being more popular than ever I can't imagine them getting rid of their bead section.

Go to a local bead store instead they will have a much better collection with unique and different beads than Michaels would ever sell.

Not sure, but we seem to have plenty of beads at our Michael's. If they are on clearance, then they could be changing bead companies. I'll have to ask the store manager here, you should do the same at your Michael's. Just ask to speak to him or her the next time you're there.

I'd noticed that myself. I just figures they were changing suppliers. Of course, I usually buy my beads from my local bead store--they have a better selection and I can get decent semiprecious stones there.

I asked the manager and she said they were clearing out the old to make a new and improved display. Lots of new items. Can't wait!
