I recommend that you go to an Arts & Crafts store, such as Hobby Lobby, Michael's, or JoAnn Fabric. Wander around the various departments to see what strikes your fancy. You might like sewing, handicrafts (knitting, crocheting, etc), painting, jewelry making, soap or candle making, scrapbooking, woodworking, metal working, or any of the dozens of things that you can find on their shelves. Most craft stores have free leaflets with instructions on how to do a specific craft, so you can try several until you learn which one(s) you like. Many of the crafts have inexpensive starter kits so you can try it with little investment. You can also try puzzles if you don't feel artistic. Go to a hobby shop, such as HobbyTown USA, and look at their model trains, rockets, radio controlled cars and airplanes, and science kits. These are considerably more expensive to get involved with, but you can start with smaller equipment and trade up as you get more money. Many craft or hobby pursuits have groups or clubs you can drop into so you can learn more from like-minded individuals. If you like music, you can learn an instrument, but rent it first until you know if you like it; the instrument and lessons can get expensive. If you like collecting, look into coins, stamps, blown glass figurines, buttons, or anything that interests you; collecting can get expensive, also. For the outdoors, gardening, bicycling, camping, and backpacking, are good hobbies that can also give you a workout; for less of a workout, try photography or bird watching. If you prefer to stay indoors, cooking, baking, and cake decorating are good, and people are always interested in eating your creations. A good pursuit to go along with that is exercise, yoga, dancing, or martial arts. If you have patience and a steady hand, try airplane or shipbuilding, magic, or grow a bonsai tree. If you enjoy computers, start a blog or research genealogy. If you are knowledgeable in an area, answer questions posted on Yahoo! Answers. These are only a tiny sampling of ideas; you will find so many more when you start looking around. When you find a hobby or craft that interests you, do a web search on it and you will find dozens of sites with free or low cost instructions, patterns, and groups that you can join.
