The batting is usually referred to as batting or even fiberfill. Fleece is the fabric. You can substitute any sturdy fabric that is also lightweight. If you use regular fabric, be aware that it may require more edging work than the fleece does, which may not be in your pattern. You may need to turn it under or use bias tape or some such thing.

One word: Goodwill. Don't just get fabric, be creative - get fleece jackets, wash them well, rip them apart and use them for fabric that's cheaper and often higher-quality than normal stuff. Wait for sales at Joann's - mine had one this weekend, when all their fleece was on sale for 70% off and the 'furry fleece' was on sale for 50% off. Or, go to wally world ;)

It is the fleece you make blankets out of ya it sounds silly but it is a thick fabric and holds the shape of the prodject. Have fun,

well is the fleece the body of the item? if so its Polar fleece, if its for between layers of fabric, its quilt batting. also could mean sweatshirt fabric.

I believe Missy is right, and it also makes it thicker, softer, more plump, and much nicer
