Do pre-WW2 coins have any value?

Question

I found my father's pre-WW2 coins during the US occupation of the Philippines. The coins were minted from US Banks, but have Philippine monetary value. For example, I have a coin that shows "United States of America 1903" with a bald eagle emblem in the front, but the back shows "Five Centavos Filipinas."
Basically, the Philippines was a US territory from 1898 - 1945. So, I suppose this is why the coins were minted.
Do these have any value whatsoever? Thanks.

You have coins minted under the sovereignty of the U.S. 1903-1936. They were issued however from 1903-1929. Coins from 1937-45 were issued by the U.S. under the Commonwealth. They are a collectible item with the large silver peso's being worth the most money. A lot of the silver coins minted up to 1912 ended up in Manila bay due to the Japanese. The government did not want them in the hands of the Japanese. Coins are not minted by banks, but by mints and at that time the Philippine coins were struck at the San Francisco, Philadelphia and the U.S. mint at Manila in the Philippines. During WW II some coins were struck at the Denver mint. Values on these coins have been going up slowly over the years. You need to see a world coin dealer is one is in your area. A few U.S. coin dealers deal in them, but not a lot. Just looking at one coin paper, it looks like the coins in middle to high grades of circulated, the Peso's are going for $29 and up. Silver nickels between 1942-1945 are only valueable if they are in VF-20 or better. The value ranges between $0.90-$20. It depends on the grade of coin. If it is not MS-60 or better, then the highest value it can have is $3.



If you have any error mints, the value will be even higher.



That is just an idea of world war II coins. Just think how much the older coins would be.

Yes they do have value, you can find a few sites online that can tell you how much its worth. There are many books that are also really good if you collect them. It depends on the symbols on the coins though and how rare it is.
