I am a girl scout leader and i have been trying to make the safety pin bead crafts and im coming into a couple of problems....1st is once you attache the smaller safety pins to the larger one how in the heck do you attach it to your shirt or whatever you want to attach it to? 2nd is how do you get bead to the side of the pin that doesn't open...the end of the pin is to big to go through the bead? any help would be great.

The site below describes all you need.

They use the same method I learned as a kid - pry the loop at the botton of the safty pin open just enough to slide other pins around it - (similiar to sliding keys onto a jump ring.)

Then pin it with the regular side you would pin with to your hat or shirt.

I used to use a metal finger nail file to pry with, but I'm not sure if they still make those these days.

Good luck with your swaps!!

Hi there,

Yes, it can be a bit tricky until you know how to do it right. One website that also explains everything about beaded safety pins, as well as several links to free patterns, is posted below.

The links to the patterns each includes photos of how to pry open the loop at the end of the safety pin, and how to thread the safety pins on, very helpful.

Good luck!
