One of the cutest flowers you'll find for adorning headbands is this one: http://veryberryhandmade.co.uk/my-crochet-patterns/a-frothy-flower/

A new mom has been bringing her newborn to our weekly knitting group, and of course the knitters fixed her up with a headband right away--and used the above flower pattern with a button in the center. You could use a bead or leave it open. It turned out really cute! (Knitted headbands work better than crocheted because knit fabric is stretchier than crochet.)

Here's one that's quick and easy and crocheted: http://mymerrymessylife.com/2012/02/crochet-baby-headband-free-crochet-pattern.html

These are cute and adaptable: http://promotions.drgnetwork.com/newsletters/talkingcrochet/pages/TCNL1707_patt1.html

The simplest would be to use a stretchy yarn such as Bernat's Baby Stretch. Then make a short chain--5 to 10 stitches--and single crochet the band the appropriate length to fit around the baby's head (13" to 14" for a typical newborn) and crochet the two ends together. Add a fancy flower and you're done!
