This Christmas, I got a Singer Prelude. I was threading the machine and trying to raise the bobbin thread, but was not able to. The upper thread would snag on something and the bobbin thread would not raise. I followed the manual precisely but I must have screwed up somewhere. From the research i have done it seems like i have to re-time the sewing machine. I am beginner when it comes to sewing so i have no clue what is wrong and how I can fix it. Please help.

it sounds to me like you don't have the bobin in quite right. re-timing is something done by the repair shop. if you just got your machine for Christmas you should not need to re-time your machine my 10 year old machine has never been serviced and i've sewn quite a bit on it and it could probably use a tune up but still sews just fine. my sugestion would be to un-thread the machine completely. then leave it alone for awhile. go back to it, use the manual and try to re-thread it. maybe your directions aren't written clearly. here are some sites that have to do with threading a sewing machine. maybe if you look thru these or watch this video you will see what might be wrong.

you could also have the tread in the bobbin too lose or tight that could cause some problems you should have got some little tiny tools with your sew machine use the tiny screw driver to loosen the screw on the bobbin hold/case this should help if I'm understanding you right. good luck and only adjust a tiny bit too much will ust make your thread all wobbly and lose.

See if you can find your machine on this link and look for troubleshooting. I hope this helps. Are you holding the top thread taught while trying to raise the bottom thread?

usually, you insert the top needle into the lower area on the machine, then it catches, and you pull the string out, and the bobbin string comes with it.

but, im sure you've figured it out by now. good luck on your sewing endevours! i love sewing, and if you have any other questions ill try to answer...
