I have a 1970 and 1975 "no s" dimes, and I was wondering how to tell if they were proof or not. I've googled everything and can't seem to get a good example or description clear enough to understand.
Also, if they AREN'T proof, are they still worth anthing?
Thanks.

The only foolproof way to know if you have a no-S proof dime is to see it in the sealed US Mint package along with the other coins that do have the S. Philadelphia-minted dimes for circulation have no mint mark and are face value coins.
Proof coins should have mirrored flat surfaces and details that appear frosty. Once a proof gets into circulation - it doesn't happen often, but it happens - it will quickly lose some of that initial polished look, but they can still be told apart from other coins by the S mint mark. Proofs are made only at San Francisco. Without the S, even if it came out of a sealed proof set, there's no way to prove you have the rare dime.

Proof coins after 1936 come in a hard plastic case from the mint and will state they are "proofs". They will be untouched and very shiny.
As for a 1970 and 1975 "no s" dimes, the rare ones of course are the proof, followed by uncirculated. Uncirculated is different from proof, it will be bright and shiny and of course never been through circulation.
