By the description you have give, it sounds as though the mesh of your spur and pinion aren't properly setup. You should loosen your motor slightly and make sure that the teeth of both the spur and pinion are lined up properly. Something like this http://www.rccoh.com/IMG/land/off-road/hpi.savage/whipnet/spur.gear.mesh3.jpg

Another problem could be that your motor may not be properly screwed in and will move while you are driving and therefore remove itself from the mesh.
If that doesn't work, your slipper clutch may be too loose. I am no expert on HPI products but you could ask for assistance from people at your local track or the shop you bought it from. Hope this helps and enjoy the hobby :)

in case you like monster automobiles the HPI Savage is an surprising selection, yet buggies are super too. (Buggy guy myself). the two between the manufacturers Ofna and Duratrax make surprisingly sturdy starters that are in elementary terms around $3 hundred. those RTR's are super, yet not suitable regardless of the shown fact that, and contain extremely decrease priced electronics. in case you're exciting in somewhat stepping into it regardless of the shown fact that, dropping somewhat extra money gets you some sturdy stuff. For around $650 you will get a Losi 8ight 2.0 buggy equipment (Race curler equipment on my own w/ no engine or electronics is $650). It comes with a very RTR Losi 8ight 2.0 buggy, 2 JR servos (nevertheless variety of inexpensive ones, yet must be worse), a 1400 mah receiver batter %. (approx $25), A Spektrum DX3S radio ($235) - radio i take advantage of and that's astounding. Comes with 2 receivers and telemetry, I pretty advise it-, a starter field ($80). It even comes with the maximum recent upgraded differentials! the only thank you to get all that for my area could be to purchase the equipment, and regardless of the shown fact that the kits are meant for execs and contain enhancements, they lack an engine and electronics, so a sturdy set-up will run over $one million,000. i comprehend that RTR equipment looks like a lot, yet all those lined gains (starter field, super 2.4 GHz radio, RX battery %., etc) are all upload-ons you'll want surprisingly rapidly as quickly as you get into the interest. So all in all, this is an superb deal for what you get. that's a super starter, yet is likewise fairly waiting to be placed on a music.
