Im babysitting and we did an activity where you put beads on pegs and melt/fuse them together. What can I use to protect them from the iron when I melt it so they don't melt onto the iron?

You can use wax paper (sold in the grocery store with wrapping items like glad wrap and aluminum foil). http://www.reynoldspkg.com/reynoldskitchens/en/product.asp?cat_id=1337&prod_id=1792

The best papers to use are those that are non-stick and won't "melt" (like the wax part of waxed paper, though that could work if done in some ways).

If you don't have the original paper, some replacements I've heard of are the slick papers that self-adhesive stamps and stickers come on, the papers that are sold as backing papers for fusible web (fabric store), and perhaps parchment paper (grocery store, etc) since it's coated with silicone and very little can stick to silicone (or any silicone pads you have can be used underneath, or thinner silicone sheets if you have them for other crafts on top).

Take a piece of wax paper and place it over the beads. Then place an old towel on top of that. Gently melt the top, and then flip off the beads. Place another sheet of wax paper and then towel over that side and then melt. Make sure you let it harden before you play with it. Also, if you melt too much, it will look horrible, if you melt too little, it will fall apart. Good Luck!!
