My stepmother's birthday is next Sunday and I already have a kit and I tried reading the directions and they don't make any sense. Please help. If you can find any link that is for beginners for knitting that would be amazing. Thanks for the help.

Start to understand the directions for knitting -- you will need to know the basic abbreviations on the directions. I don't have a copy but be sure that you understand what all of them are: k = knit, p = purl, inc. = increase dec = decrease and so on. If you have more - just ask.

Know how to make a slip knot -- I use one from the crochet world because it never fails.

Know how to knit -- here is a good set of videos on knitting basics --- I don't know if there is a video for the pattern but you did not include any information.

Videos: The girl on these has been on television teaching and has a nice style -- all of these are with the same person so you can follow along. Copy the links off to your desktop so you can watch them when you need to. There will be other links if you want to see other videos on the same subject.

The only place worth while is http://www.knittinghelp.com/. But sorry to tell you, if your step's birthday is next week... you will never get anything done!! It takes many weeks of practice, practice, practice to be able to get anything that is presentable to someone else. Plan on something for NEXT year. This year, find something else you can make her, and then do all your lessons.

I really suggest that you need to take a basic beginner class. You will learn all the proper way to do the basics, what the terms mean, where to find further patterns and help. Check with your LYS, community centre, church group, library, local guild... you will find classes everywhere. You will never regret it.

Anytime you read directions and they don't make any sense, slow down. Read the instructions out loud to yourself. Read them aloud once straight through, then pick up yarn and needles. Read them aloud once again, but this time try to do what they are saying at each step. If that doesn't help, have someone else read them slowly to you as you try to do what's said. This helps with instructions for anything, honestly.

Go to knittinghelp.com. They have tons of videos that are really helpful. I knit a lot but sometime forget how to do a stitch or an trying something new. I always go to this site first.
