When i write things that are very important, i do it on a typewriter. I use a typewritwer that uses fold fashioned ribbons but the ribbon is done and i don't know how to put it in. Does anybody know how to do it? If it helps whomever can anwser the question, the typewriter model is an Olivetti MS 25 plus.

While I'm not familiar with that particular model, I have put new ribbons in typewriters before. The first thing you need to look at is how the existing ribbon is in there. On some machines, (usually newer electric models) you replace the ribbon and the spools it goes on. This is the easier kind to replace the ribbon on, since you just lift the top and pop out the old one. Other, older machines will have non replaceable spools, in which case, you'll have to remove and replace the actual ribbon. This is trickier, because it's a bigger pain if you wind them wrong. When you remove the old ribbon, pay attention to which side more of the ribbon is one. Wind more of the ribbon on the opposite side (i.e. if the left spool is full when you take it out, fill the right side). Most spools will have some sort of notch to help you get started. Make sure you have some ribbon on each spool, to ensure it works properly. Most spools should just pop out. It's not hard, just finicky.

It should be obvious how the spools come out, just slide the new ones in the same. The tricky bit might be the guides or holders where the keys actually strike the ribbon. Very important this is put in correctly. If not obvious the only way is to take a careful note of how the old ribbon is threaded. If you could get hold of a manual, maybe advertise for one or ask on here it will probably have a drawing or set of drawings to show you. Amount of ribbon in one of the spools should not be a problem as the direction the ribbon travels will be reversed when the ribbon gets to its end. Best of luck and be prepared to get inky fingers, seems to happen no matter how careful you are. Joan.

what I would do is call 1-800-816-6855

That is a store that sells the multi strike ribbon for the Olivetti.

I would ask them if they have the directions on how to do it. I know ribbon can be rewound on old spools......

Also, check out this store's site:

If no luck at the first store I would contact this one and ask them the same questions..

good luck!
