A gimlet. Used one often when I worked for BT. A hand tool quickly and readily available for making holes relatively easily through corners of door frames, window frames etc . Also the tip used as a starter hole for screws.

A bradawl has a small chisel type tip. An Awl has a point and a gimlet has a small screw thread on the end.

Either an awl or a bradawl - one has a pointed tip, and one has a thread on and I can never remember which is which!
