Ok, so I'm making some decorative throw pillows for my couch. I want to "frame" this pretty blue fabric in white fabric. The link above is the closest thing I could find to what I want to do. I'm not doing any embroidery or beading work, like on the pillow shown, I just want to frame one fabric in another like the basic design of the pillow. How can I measure to make sure the angles where the strips of fabric meets match up right? I'm hoping the link will work, but if not, the best I can describe it is you know how in a plain picture frame the wood meets at the corners at a angle? That's what I'm teeing to do with fabric.

You are trying to miter the corners, that is the wood working term used.

Cut the strips of your framing, big enough to allow for a seam on all four sides of each of your four pieces. If you have a mat that has cutting lines on it, even better, but a ruler will do.

Match up the outside angle of the material to be a corner square and pin it. Fold the inside seam on one side under and back at a 45 degree angle so the piece lies diagonal to the other. Cut and sew. and you have it. Sew the inside seam to your insert,to attach to the inside square piece, and the outside seam to sew the pillow together.

By the way, you could do this to have the corner seams land exactly in the middle of the corner as shown, or not, as you wish. It might be a good idea to have all the 4 corners match though.

By the way, that pillow is gorgeous. Whoever did that beaded snowflake is really ambitious. I would not mind having that as a theme, snowflake pillows, stockings, wall hangings. You could do a simple design with some beads if you wanted, or even put a beaded fringe around your pillow.
