2 sets of three gores, or 3 sets of 2 gores sewn together? It's much the same, but I suspect 2 sets of three are going to be easier to "see".

Assuming you've got two sets of 3, place the two sets together, matching the tops and bottoms of the two sets, and making sure the right sides (the ones you'll see after you're done making this) are touching each other. ("Right sides together" in sewing terms.)

Sew the remaining two seams together, leaving about a 1" gap in one seam. When you're done stitching the pair of seams, reach in through the gap and pull the ball rightside out. Stuff the ball, and then finish stitching that hole.

If you've got 3 sets of two gores sewn, sew two of the sets together on one side. Now you've got a set of two gores and a set of 4 gores. Stitch, right sides together, one edge of the two gore piece to the 4 gore piece. Stitch the remaining pair of edges together, leaving a gap. Turn as described above.

You need to to sew all of the sides together. You could also look at other ways of making a sphere. both basket balls and tenis balls use two "8" shapes put together http://www.swan.ac.uk/compsci/research/graphics/vg/compvis/images/basketBall.jpg whereas a football tends to be made up of pentagons and hexagons http://www.high-stakes.co.uk/images/football1.jpg

something like a volleyball or baseball since those are sewn. Beach balls have a simpler pattern and I bet there are others
