I have a large tin box that i super glued water absorbant foam to the lid. i was wondering if i could use that as a tobacco tin because i can't find anywere that sells them and i feel it's pointless to order one on the internet.
Also as a second question can you use a nut grinder as a tobacco grinder?

Yes you CAN, but I wouldn't !! As others point out, the moisture in the tobacco will evaporate, leaving you with dry leaves !! NOT good for pipe or cigar smokers.
I'm a pipe smoker and have a tobacco jar I got from my local tobacconist for about $20, I also put daily-use tobacco into a lil zip-lock baggie. A Mason Jar would work fine... they're about $15 for a 1/2 gallon jar. They usually come in 6-packs, but are GREAT for storing other stuff: rice, beans, coffee.
I've never used a nut grinder, but I HAVE used my Cuisinart to shred tobacco... using the coleslaw blade.

You could use the tin box, but why have rusty tobacco. Look around and find a canning jar, sorta like a glass mayonaise jar. You can buy fresh sealing lids that seal airtight with a screw-on ring, They are available from 1/2 pints to quart size and they are cheap.
I'm not familar with nut grinders, but I would not want a tobacco taste to any nuts that I ground afterwards.
How do you buy your tobacco? Leaves, I have not heard of grinding tobacco at home.

It's better to use a glass jar because the humidity of the tobacco will make the tin rust. Rusty tobacco is horrible. Why not invest in a good humidor? Yes you will pay up front but in the long run, the tobacco will stay fresher. We used apples to keep our tobacco fresh longer. Just cut a quarter slice and put it in with the tobacco. It always worked for pipe tobacco, which is coarse cut.

Er... may I ask why exactly you want a tobacco jar?

no, only jars can be jars, tin boxes are generally only tin boxes.
