Question:
Is there a type of craft punch (type thing) that can go through plastic cards?

I've been collecting various old plastic gift cards (think debit/credit cards) in the hopes that I would be able to make this picture out of them in my mind. I'd need them to be in a uniform size/shape, so I thought I might be able to use the craft punches that you can use for scrapbooking and stuff. I've never used them before, so I'm not sure if they are strong enough to go through the plastic or not (and wouldn't want to chance it just in case without knowing).

Does anyone know of something that would be able to punch through them to make little centimetre sized squares? And if so, where would I find this thing?

A manual die cutting machine would be a good option, capable of cutting through the thick plastic of credit cards and even some thin metal sheeting. These are used to create the blanks for credit crads, but with the correct die shape installed, could be used to cut what you want. The link offers you an example of this tool. There are also larger craft cutters which use a similar die cut technique. These styles work like a two-holed paper punch machine. The included PDF links describe how they work and list the materials they can cut.

Just use scissors or a guillotine style paper cutter to cut it into cm wide strips, then cut the strips into squares.
