How do I find the worth of collectible plates & old Avon stuff?

Question

I have a bunch of collectible plates & Avon collectibles that I have been dragging around for years. I know these things can be worth a lot of money. I know that most of them will probably be only $5 or $10 but that will still add up. I need to find out what a good selling price would. I've been looking around on the web & I've seen a lot of different price tags. How do find a good market value?
Please don't tell me e-bay, or craigslist. That's what got me confused in the first place.

You don't want to hear it, but it's the truth. EBAY. People aren't going to pay more than a few bucks here and there for nick nacks... IMO selling 5$ plates is a waste of time, post them with a .01$ opening no reserve auction and hope someone likes them and bids them up.



They might be "collectible" to you, to me they are junk, to the person buying them through EBAY they might be treasure.

Just because they are old doesn't make them valuable. The plates should be easy enough to find out about. There are books and websites for them. As far as the avon stuff is concerned...I doubt there is a really large collectible market for them but I suggest checking out your local book store to find a book and just flip through it as the store to get an idea of what they are worth. Its always best to sell something like this as a lot to get rid of it all at once otherwise you could be dragging this stuff around for another 20 years.

I am going to the public library momentariy because they have a book there on most of old avon items and the price of each. It is called something like Avon collectibles and their prices
