Does anyone know where you can buy inexpensive fleece fabric, to make blankets, pre-cut or otherwise? I am making blankets for childrens hospital but the fleece is so expensive at Joann Fabrics and I don't know where else to go. Please help. Thanks.

Malden Mills Store: http://www.maldenmillsstore.com/

They support charitable work. This quote is directly off of their website:

"Malden Mills is happy to make our manufacturing remnants available to you for your home sewing and charitable giving projects!"

Malden Mills Store has changed its name to: Mill Direct Textiles.

Malden Mills is a great source for all of your fleece fabrics and a very friendly, service oriented store. You won't go wrong with them.

One word:

Goodwill.

Don't just get fabric, be creative - get fleece jackets, wash them well, rip them apart and use them for fabric that's cheaper and often higher-quality than normal stuff. Wait for sales at Joann's - mine had one this weekend, when all their fleece was on sale for 70% off and the 'furry fleece' was on sale for 50% off.

Or, go to wally world ;)

Have you signed up for the mailing list at JoAnn's? It's free and then they send you a flyer about twice a month with a 40% off coupon. (you can also go online to get these). I have used these coupons on one large cut of fleece and saved a ton of money. Another option is flannel.

Much KUDOs to you. I agree that Walmart would have the best price. i think if you could do 1 or 2 a day would be wonderful. I agree that flannel is cheaper, but for a child there is nothing better than cozying up with fleece. Keep up your good work. Also the advice of letting them know that it is for a non-profit charity, they will be more willing to help (tax write-off for them).

if you are making the blankets for the children's hospitals - tell your local fabric stores what you are making - (joann, hancock, walmart (less likely to give you a discount), local quilt shops, etc..)

THEN, when the fabrics go on sale - they can pull it aside for you OR they may donate fabrics that they will no-longer be selling OR they may give you a discount.

You may need to get a letter or something from the children's hospital stating that you make blankets for them, but if you have that, then the stores should really have no problem - they may also give you their larger remnants :)

good luck! thats a GREAT cause!

Wal-Mart is going to be the cheapest. Sometimes if you watch for sales Joann Fabrics ill have good deals on it. Plus if you get one of their fliers in the mail they always have couples where you can save 40% off.

Try looking under wholesale fabric vendors. They can probably direct you to some vendors.
